Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary–Blissful break for bird lovers within Dubai City

Dubai is quite understated when it comes to its natural surroundings. The city always gets attributed as a modern, futuristic city due to its innovative architecture and passion for modernism. Step away from the glitz and grandeur of Dubai and venture out to the outskirts of modern Dubai. You will be surprised to find yourself in some of the prettiest natural splendors that the emirate has to offers. While Dubai keeps focusing on pioneering in the global scene, it also actively conserves its beautiful natural landscapes. Among its nature’s gems is Ras Al Khor Wild Life Reserve. A perfect spot for bird watchers, this Dubai tourist place beckons a myriad of birds such as grey and reef herons, sandpipers, osprey, black-winged stilts, Purple sunbird, Red-vented bulbul to name a few. Dubai becomes a favorite stop-over for over 180 different species of birds, thanks to this wet patch of land right in the middle of the city.  However, the fiery pink flamingoes steal the show in wintry months. The sight of a flamboyance of pink flamingoes dominating the scene with the gleaming metal towers of the Dubai city skyline in the background is worth watching. Morethan 500 flamingoes make Dubai their humble abode during the winter season. Due to the preference of migratory birds to make Ras Al Khor their home annually, Dubai has taken the initiative to make it into a bio-diverse area and preserve birding hides from the urban life. Bird watchers can enjoy bird spotting sessions from 3 different bird hides that give an up-close look without disturbing them.  At a time, only 10 visitors are allowed inside a bird hide for bird watching session. Apart from the birds, Ras Al Khor is also a favorite spot among mammals such as Cape hare, Arabian red fox, Ethiopian hedgehogs who love nesting in the mangroves and bushes of this marshland.
