Minimum Score Stays At 2018 Low Of 440 In Latest Express Entry Draw

Minimum score stays at 2018 low of 440 in latest Express Entry draw

A new draw for Express Entry has been held on August 22 which has issued 3750 invitations to apply for the Canadian permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score for the draw was required to be 440.

It is the third draw of the year which has featured a minimum score if 440 that is the lowest CRS score drawn in 2018 up to date. The minimum CRS score and the size of the draw held on August 22, both are the same as the previous draw which was held on August 8th.

The Express Entry is the system which is managing the profiles of the applicants who are present in the three main federal economic immigration categories of Canada - the Federal Skilled Worker Class, the Federal Skilled Trades Class and the Canadian Experience Class.

The applicants who are being ranked in adherence to the Comprehensive Ranking System score and the highest ranked applicants are then issued an Invitation to Apply through the regular invitation rounds.

The new procedure was used in this draw which is the tie break date and time and it was February 21, 2018 at 11:28:03 UTC. It means that the applicants who acquire a CRS score of above 440 and including those who have a score of 440 and have submitted their profile before the announced date and time, will be receiving an ITA in this invitation round.

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada IRCC has announced that it has issued 3750 invitations to apply in each draw which has been held since June 13. The regularity in the placement of these larger draws which are basically being held every two weeks can be the reason to keep the CRS score at 440 and have not let it get higher than this.

For the applicants who want to improve and enhance their scores, there are several ways which includes provincial nomination which will result in 600 additional CRS points. The Express Entry linked Provincial Nominee Program PNP have been very active and have been demonstrating innovative ways in 2018.

The IRCC has issued a total of 54,700 ITA in more than 17 draws up till now in 2018 and it is putting slightly ahead of the 54,487 ITAs which were issued over the first 17 draws of the year 2017. Moreover, IRCC has issued 60,742 ITAs last year by this same point in August and now that puts IRCC 6,042 ITAs a little behind the last year’s pace.

Around 86,023 ITAs were being issued last year which doubled the ITA totals of both 2015 and 2016, combined. Taking the notice of Canada’s increased admission targets for 2018 and 2019, it is possible that this year total could even surpass the total number of ITAs issued in 2017.

To illustrate about the applicants who could have obtained an ITA in the August 22 draw, here are some hypothetical examples:

Chris and Anna are a married couple, and they both hold a Bachelor’s degree. The couple has been working for eight and four years respectively.  Chris is working as a financial analyst and Anna is a teacher. They both have wrote the IELTS and have score 8 in each of the category. Chris is 34 years and Anna is 29 years old. They have not worked or studied in Canada. Chris and Anna have entered the pool with Anna being the principal applicant as she score more point for the age. The CRS score for the couple was 440 and it was sufficient enough to get an ITA in the recently held Express Entry draw.

It should be noted that the CRS minimum is not going up and it is much likely due to the size of the draws getting larger and it has been witnessed since June. However, there is a very long way still to go until the end of the year 2018 and it is expected that the targets for Canada’s admission will be increasing for 2018 and 2019, in the meantime the decision makers could be looking at an active fall on the front of Express Entry.
